Segas maffiaga Yakuza-serie är omåttligt populär i Japan, och den femte delen sålde absolut bäst i hela landet under sin debutvecka.  Hela 356,757 exemplar såldes, medan 163,528 exemplar såldes av Wii U-titlen New Super Mario Bros. U som hamnade på andra plats. Det var inte heller någon dålig bedrift av Nintendo och deras titel, då det handlar om en helt ny konsol där 308,142 enheter såldes under samma tid, vilket betyder att över hälften av de japanska Wii U-ägarna också köpte New Super Mario Bros. U.
